Day 17: Gillette to Sundance

Our last full day in Wyoming was a fairly easy ride.  Cool, overcast and a few spots of rain as we left, I thought I was under dressed but soon warmed up as our pace line moved along the long straight roads at a fairly speedy 20 mph.  After lunch some of the group extended the ride by taking a slight detour to get a better view of Devil's Tower, a 1267 foot geological feature popular with rock climbers.  Things warmed up through the day and there were a couple of climbs towards the end before a nice 4 mile downhill to Sundance.  This was the place where the outlaw Harry Longabaugh acquired the nickname 'The Sundance Kid' after being arrested and jailed here.  It appears compulsory for every male resident of the town to wear a hat in public, the distribution in the restaurant - 95% baseball, 5% cowboy.
